Alena Petrova studied Slavic Studies and German as a Foreign Language in Heidelberg, where she wrote her dissertation on literary theory entitled 'Überlegungen zu einer gattungsspezifischen Poetik des Raums an Textbeispielen der russischen Literatur des 19. Jahrhunderts [Reflections on a genre-specific poetics of space using text examples from 19th century Russian literature]' (published in 2008). Since October 2006, she has been working at the Department for Translation Studies at the University of Innsbruck, currently as Associate Professor of Translation Studies and since 2017 as Head of Institute. In her habilitation on 'Literarisches Übersetzen als Gegenstand der Translationswissenschaft und der Translationsdidaktik [Literary Translation as a subject of Translation Studies and Translation Teaching]' (2014), she developed a method for analysing literary source texts based on linguistic and textual-semiotic aspects. Her research interests include theory and didactics of literary translation; Russian literature, culture and regional studies; community interpreting.
