Following the tradition, SummerTrans IX in Bolzano will feature a PhD School, at which a selection of PhD projects in the domain of Translation Studies will be presented and discussed with experts and students. The SummerTrans PhD School will take place on Wednesday, 24 September 2025. It is conceived as a platform where young researchers present their ideas and results to the scientific community, and have the opportunity to bring forward their questions and get feedback on theoretical and methodological aspects of their research.
Our plan is to dedicate two programme slots to the SummerTrans PhD School. PhD project presentations will each last approximately 15 minutes and be followed by a plenary discussion of 30 minutes.
We are soliciting submissions reporting on current PhD projects. SummerTrans IX has legal translation as a special focus but this does not restrict the range of topics which can be submitted for the PhD School.
Please send an abstract of approximately 800 words in English or German by email to the SummerTrans PhD School coordinators, Pius ten Hacken and Laura Giacomini.
The deadline for abstract submission is 31 March 2025. A decision on the selection of the best proposals will be communicated by the coordinators by the end of April 2025.
Before the start of the PhD School, a committee will select the three best projects on the basis of the abstracts. They will be honoured with an official IATI Young Researcher Award and funding in the form of a travel allowance of €150.
Each PhD School participant will receive a certificate for successful participation in the SummerTrans PhD School in Bolzano from the International Academy for Translation and Interpreting IATI.
It is also planned to publish a selection of the presentations from the Bolzano PhD School in a volume based on the summer school to be published in the series ‘Forum Translationswissenschaft’, Peter Lang, Frankfurt am Main.
